Artist Terry Mckee (a.k.a. Crowman) and an extint Bison
occidentalis skull.
Terry was born in Kokomo, Indiana in 1947 of Scotch-Irish and Ojibwa Indian descent. He was raised on a dairy and beef cattle farm near the old capital of the Cherokee Indian Nation in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Terry served four years with the U.S. Marine Corps, of which three years were spent in the Mojave Desert at Twenty-Nine Palms Marine Corps Base as a radar repairman assigned to the HAWK 2nd Light Anti Aircraft Missile Battalion. After his discharge from the Marines Terry attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where his major studies were in Pre-Med which resulted in a B.S. in Biology with a Zoology emphasis and a Minor Degree in both Geology and Chemistry. Since leaving the mixed deciduous forests of eastern Oklahoma, Terry and his wife Cheri have lived in the Mojave Desert of California, along the banks of the Missouri River in Missouri and among the bayous of southern Louisiana where Terry worked in New Orleans for five years employed by the U. S. Navy in a bio-dynamics laboratory as an animal handler and Lab Technician. Other than his art and research for his art, which includes visiting fossil sites to develop ideas for paintings, Terry has been employed for over 25 years by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a wetlands and stream "Natural Resource Specialist" and field investigator for the Clean Water Act. Prior to his paleo art, Terry painted subject matter involving Indians of North America, ancient peoples, western wildlife, and studied and constructed primitive weapons and tools. Cheri and Terry moved to the mountains of Colorado in 1985 and live west of Denver in Conifer.
